Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

In 1956, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was founded along with the other three TCM colleges in China. The University has valuable assets of more than 600 experts and professors including 2 academicians (from the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering), and numerous national or municipal distinguished physicians and academic leaders. Recent years, university won 4 terms of National Teaching Award, and 7 courses won National Elaborate Course Award. The University contains 20 colleges or departments, 3 directly affiliated top-level hospitals and 2 indirectly affiliated hospitals. As a construction university for “innovative experimental modality for talent training” and “distinctive specialties”, the University passed the appraisal for excellent undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education in 1999 and regained the honor in 2007, along with accreditation for pilot program of Chinese medicine discipline in 2008. Currently, over 9,000 students including 400 doctoral candidates, 1000 master degree candidates and more than 1100 long-term international students are studying at the University. In addition, over 1,500 short-term international students from 42 countries or regions study here each year. In terms of straight numbers of international students, the University is an undisputed front-runner.
